Griffin recalls partnering with prominent NAACP lawyers, including William J. Durham. Though originally attempting to defeat urban renewal efforts entirely, the legal team reassessed their approach and began to argue for larger acquisition sums. Residents received more money for their property, but many remained disappointed by their displacement.
