In November 2005, the Waco City Council voted in favor of naming a prominent downtown city building after Dr. Mae Jackson. They discussed naming other city fixtures in her memory, including the Herring Avenue Bridge and the Waco Convention Center, but they decided on the development center, a location that would provide access to development permits, will house planning, and inspection services. The Dr. Mae Jackson Development Center opened in early 2006.
