In Case of Fire…

After the Cotton Palace suffered severe fire damage in 1895, protecting the reopened space from conflagration became a priority. In the early twentieth century, the Sanborn Company created maps for insurance companies that assessed the fire risk for properties across the country. The 1916 map pictured here shows the Cotton Palace buildings, naming the materials used in construction and the fire prevention measures taken at the site.
