Guinan allegedly met superstar evangelist Aimee Semple McPherson when the preacher visited one of her clubs in the early 1930s and tried to convert patrons. Initially envious of McPherson’s ability to sway attention, Guinan eventually saw promise in the evangelist’s approach to religion. Visiting McPherson’s Angelus Temple on what would be her last tour, Guinan publicly toyed with abandoning nightclubs for a career in ministry. She even preached at a church in Tacoma before her sudden death in Vancouver, thus ending her evangelistic career before it ever began.
