The Martin Brothers sent R. T. Dennis to St. Louis to study embalming when he was under their employ. When he returned, he performed the first embalming in Waco’s history. Since furniture stores often sold funeral furniture and performed undertaker services, this proved to be a new competitive edge for the Martin Brothers, and Dennis continued his embalming services when he started his own company.
