de Cordova Portrait

Jacob sympathized with Texans fighting for their independence during his time in New Orleans in 1836. He claimed his ancestors faced the wrath of the Spanish Inquisition in Europe, which is why they fled to Jamaica. He could therefore relate to the colonists facing the wrath of the Mexican government.
