Detroit Stars (c. 1920)

Cooper made his debut with the Detroit Stars when the team became a charter member of the Negro National League in 1920. That season, the Stars established themselves as one of the best teams in the West, coming in second with a 35-23 record. Cooper is pictured here in the top photograph, middle row, on the far right.
