In 1970, Drs. Robert Crosthwait and Robert Angel performed Waco's first open-heart surgery, ushering in a new era in Waco medicine. Having trained with two of the nation's top cardiothoracic surgeons, both Crosthwait and Angel showed that Waco could compete with the cardio care offered in larger cities such as Houston and Dallas.
